Mr. Sham, 57, is serving the end of his sentence at a halfway house. As part of his time there, he works as a cleaner and is doing his best to start afresh, despite suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and pneumonia.
Prior to his incarceration, Mr. Sham was supporting his mother, who was unwell, through his job as a cleaner. He is still in regular contact with one of his older brothers, but not with the other siblings.
Mr. Sham will submit an appeal to the HDB for a new rental flat, because his previous flat-mate was a drug addict, and Mr. Sham wants to stay away from bad influences. Mr. Sham is determined to focus on work and wants to be able to support himself.
